Welcome to The Shack

Hi, and welcome to The Shack – a quiet corner of the internet for people navigating emotional overload, mental fatigue, and the kind of daily pressure that leaves you foggy, drained, and disconnected from yourself.

The site started as a personal project. It has since grown into a support hub, a content library, and an online shop of the compounds and tools we actually use and recommend.

🛒 Our Shop: Foundational Compounds for Focus, Calm, and Resilience

The Shack now stocks a curated selection of supplements chosen for one reason: they are the foundations we come back to again and again. No hype, no exotic blends, no borrowed marketing language. Just the compounds most people benefit from getting right before they worry about anything else.

Our current range covers:

  • L-theanine + Caffeine Stacks – for calm, steady focus without the jittery edge of coffee alone.
  • Choline Sources (Alpha-GPC and Citicoline) – daily support for focus, memory, and mental clarity.
  • Magnesium (L-Threonate and Glycinate) – a quiet essential for winding down at night and staying steady during the day.
  • High-DHA Omega-3 – the brain-lipid baseline that almost every other cognitive routine builds on.

Every product is chosen with three questions in mind: is the evidence solid, is the dosing right, and would we take it ourselves?

💬 Personal Consultations: Build a Stack That Actually Fits You

Generic stacks work for generic people. If you want something that reflects your goals, your schedule, your existing routine, and the specifics of what you are trying to improve, that is what our consultations are for.

We help with:

  • Custom stack design – built around your goals, whether that is sharper focus at work, better recovery, calmer evenings, or a steadier baseline mood.
  • Routine audits – a fresh set of eyes on what you are already doing, to spot where your current setup might be quietly working against you.
  • Second-opinion sessions – for readers who want a knowledgeable outside perspective before committing to a new protocol.
  • Lifestyle-first coaching – because sleep, sunlight, movement, and food do more heavy lifting than most supplements ever will.

Consultations are led by John Molvig (CISSN, ISSN) and his team with direct inputs from you.

💔 If You Are Navigating a Relationship Affected by BPD

The Shack began as one of the first Australian-hosted resources on Borderline Personality Disorder, built specifically for the partners, parents, siblings, and friends who love someone with BPD and are quietly running out of steam. That content is still here, still free, and still one of the most important sections of the site.

What you will find here:

  • Emotional validation and clarity – you will finally feel seen. We break down the toll of walking on eggshells and offer tools to prioritize your own wellbeing.
  • A shift from chaos to control – practical strategies for regulating your own state, not just reacting to someone else’s.
  • Daily support tools – foundational compounds and lifestyle habits that help with focus, calm, and steady energy through emotionally demanding chapters.
  • Healthy emotional distance – how to build boundaries, protect your time, and reset without guilt.
  • Breaking codependent patterns – reconnecting with your own life, goals, and identity outside the relationship.

🧠 If You Are Simply Burnt Out and Looking for a Better Baseline

NOT everyone needs a diagnosis or a crisis to want to feel better. Modern life throws plenty at all of us – packed schedules, poor sleep, chronic overstimulation, and a general sense that things are running you rather than the other way around.

You can’t think clearly or perform at your best when your emotional foundation is falling apart. When your mind is tangled in overthinking, your body is in fight-or-flight, and your nervous system is on edge, no productivity hack will save you. That’s why true mental performance starts with emotional stability – and here at The Shack, we explore natural ways to support both.

Whether you’re battling brain fog, emotional fatigue, or daily stress, there are powerful yet gentle tools available.

The Shack is a toolbox for the everyday version of that:

  • Natural support for daily focus and calm – practical starting points that don’t rely on stacks of stimulants.
  • Building steady energy – using compounds like citicoline and adaptogens like rhodiola to support your baseline rather than push it artificially.
  • Recovery and burnout prevention – magnesium, sleep routines, and nervous system practices like breathwork for restoring calm.
  • Clearer, steadier days – non-invasive tools for scattered focus, low motivation, and the moods that come with being run down.
  • Feeling grounded again – lifestyle shifts like journaling and morning sunlight that support mood and mental balance in ways most people underestimate.

📖 A Brief History of The Shack

The Shack was founded years ago by John Molvig, initially as one of the earliest Australian-hosted resources dedicated to Borderline Personality Disorder – built out of his own experience supporting a partner with BPD and running into a wall of “just search online” from clinicians at the time. Over the years, the site grew into a broader hub covering emotional resilience, caring for the carer, and the practical daily habits that help people stay steady.

Following John’s own diagnosis of Adult ADHD in 2016 and his move to New Jersey in 2018, the site expanded into cognitive support, nutrition, and supplementation – grounded in his years of self-experimentation and his certification as a sports nutritionist (CISSN, ISSN). Today, The Shack is a small team focused on giving readers honest, useful, non-hyped tools for feeling more like themselves.

Scott Boudreaux, RD, CNS – Supplement Reviewer & Nutrition Writer

Scott Boudreaux is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) with a clinical background spanning hospital and outpatient settings. His work has focused on the intersection of nutrition science and cognitive performance, with particular interest in how foundational dietary patterns and targeted supplementation interact with stress, sleep, and long-term brain health.

At The Shack’s Guide, Scott reviews supplement formulations and contributes articles on nutrition science, helping readers understand what the current evidence actually says, where it is strong, where it is preliminary, and where the marketing gets ahead of the research. His approach is straightforward: credentials matter, dosing matters, and most people benefit more from getting the basics right than from chasing the next promising compound.

Scott holds his RD credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and his CNS through the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists.

Elyce Benham, M.S. – Mental Health & BPD Writer

Elyce Benham is a clinical counseling professional with a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling, Forensics, and Diagnosis & Treatment from Portland State University. At The Shack’s Guide, Elyce focuses on the topics that sit at the core of the site: Borderline Personality Disorder, emotional resilience, stress, and burnout. Her writing draws on direct clinical experience to help readers, whether they are navigating a relationship affected by BPD or working through their own patterns of emotional dysregulation, find language and frameworks that are grounded, practical, and free of jargon.

There came a point when I realized I was losing myself. The emotional chaos wasn’t just hurting the relationship – it was wrecking my focus, my sleep, and my overall sense of who I was. Therapy helped, but I needed something more – something practical and natural to support my mental clarity, mood, and daily functioning.

But we don’t just focus on survival – this site is about transformation. I believe emotional resilience and brain performance go hand in hand. That’s why The Shack combines insights into relationship psychology with natural mental health strategies like mood-balancing supplements, brain-boosting nootropics, and nervous system recovery protocols.

What makes this space different? We don’t sell false hope or overhyped hacks. Everything here is built on personal experience, research, and real-world tools that help you regain clarity, calm, and control. No jargon. No magic pills.
